  • Tijuana played to a draw against Palmeiras of Brazil in the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Their next match up will in on the road on May 14.
  • Monterrey won the CONCACAF Champions league after a huge four goal turn around in the second half against Santos Laguna. Monterrey will once again represent Liga MX at the FIFA Club World cup this winter. 
  • Mexico U-20 will participate in the Toulon tournament later this month (May 28-June 4). The format has changed from the previous years; there will be two groups with five teams, and the top two teams from the groups play in the final. Mexico is grouped with Nigeria, Belgium, Portugal, and Brazil.
  • Chepo de la Torre made his way to Europe this week to meet with Mexican players abroad. After his statements about returning to El Tri, will Vela be on the list to meet with for Chepo?
  • Mexico is rumored to be in talks with Ivory Coast for a friendly this August (MetLife Stadium). 

Update on the U-23, U-20 teams

Several of the Mexican national teams have been busy at work. The U-23 Olympic team has been busy participating at the Toulon Tournament of Hope in France as part of their preparation for the upcoming Olympics.

On Wednesday they defeated the Netherlands 4-2 to earn their first appearance in the final of the tournament. Hector Herrera, Candido Ramirez, Raul Jimenez, and Marco Fabian helped turn the score deficit twice for the eventual victory.

Meanwhile, the U-20 team(with several players from the World Cup winning U-17 squad) participated in the ADO Den Haag tournament in The Netherlands. The tournament consisted of several club teams and national teams as guests. Martin Galvan walked away from the tournament with a personal trophy for ‘Best of the Tournament.’
