A quick update on the recent news surrounding the Mexican national teams!

Mexico drew their first game in Copa America. They played to a 0-0 draw against Bolivia. Their next game is on June 15 against the host country, Chile. Unfortunately, Rafael Marquez will be out for the games against Chile and Ecuador.

On June 5, the Mexico U-20s lost 2-0 against Serbia and were knocked out of the U-20 World Cup.

Call ups for the Gold Cup were released.

Mexico drew against Colombia 1-1 on June 9 in their opening game in the Women’s World Cup and lost 2-1 against England on June 13. Their next game is against France on June 17, but Mexico is currently last in Group F.

Olivia Jimenez nominated for FIFA Puskás Award

Twenty-year-old Olivia Jimenez has been nominated alongside Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Falcao for the FIFA Puskás award.

The Puskás award is given for the “best goal of the year.”

The U-20 Mexican player is the only female on the list of ten nominees.

Jimenez was part of the Mexico’s U-20 Women’s team that participated in the 2012 U-20 World Cup.

Mexico made it to the quarterfinals before falling to Nigeria.

Jimenez scored her nominated goal in the 2-0 win against Switzerland.

FIFA.com and francefootball.fr users can vote for their favorite goal until November 29 and the top three will go on to the next round.

The winner will be announced at the FIFA Ballon D’or Gala on January 7, 2013.

FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Japan 4,1 Mexico

Mexico’s U-20 women’s team debuted with a 4-1 at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup against the home team on Sunday.
