Mexico fans around can finally exhale after Miguel Herrera delivered his final World Cup roster.
There were many rumors that some big names missing, but the likes of Marco Fabián, Giovani dos Santos, and Memo Ochoa were included. Granted, there are a few names that will be missed like Ponce and Aquino, but this time around has been much less of a head scratcher.
Here are the 23 headed to Brazil:
Goalkeepers: Corona, Ochoa, Talavera
Defenders: Aguilar, Maza Rodríguez, Moreno, Márquez, Reyes, Guardado, Layún, Salcido
Midfielders: Montes, Peña, Vázquez, Herrera, Brizuela, Fabián, Medina
Forwards: Giovani dos Santos, Peralta, Jiménez, Pulido, Chicharito
Projected XI (5-3-2):
- Aguilar, Reyes, Márquez (C), Moreno, Layún
- Peña, Vázquez, Herrera
- dos Santos, Peralta
There will be some time to experiment in order to field the most in-synch XI. Herrera has said he prefers Corona, but the fact he brought Ochoa makes one think he is going to test him out. His performance against Nigeria was stellar, so he does deserve the shot.
The midfield will probably be the most tinkered with part of the starting 11. Right now, I believe Peña, Vázquez, Herrera will take the field, but it very well could be a toss up with who Piojo prefers.
Mexico has their first warmup against Israel on May 28th in the Estadio Azteca.
