Predicted XI for South Korea friendly

Peralta and Ponce will look to regain their Olympic form in this crucial year for El Tri (Getty)

Formation: 5-3-2

Goalkeeper: Talavera

Defenders: Layún, Reyes, Márquez (C), Maza, Ponce

Midfielders: Montes, Medina, Peña

Forwards: Pulido, Peralta

I believe Piojo is going to try something a little different in this match. Although Layún played left-wingback against New Zealand, I think he is going to the right on Wednesday. Reason is, Layún is efficient with both feet, and with the form Ponce is in, it would be smart to plug him in early. Moreover, if Guardado is called, he very well be fighting for that LWB position.

I also would like to see Pulido get this start. We know Jiménez can play with Peralta, but since he wasn’t called, it is time for the other youngster to earn his stripes. This could be a major position battle come May-June…which is not a bad thing.

The midfield will be pretty similar to that from the New Zealand playoff. No reason to change anything up there for this game. Also, I see Talavera taking the goalkeeper spot, but it really is a toss up.

Mexico takes the field on Wednesday at the Alamodome against South Korea. The stadium is sold out, and all eyes will be on Piojo and co.

Vamos México!
