Olivia Jimenez nominated for FIFA Puskás Award

Twenty-year-old Olivia Jimenez has been nominated alongside Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Falcao for the FIFA Puskás award.

The Puskás award is given for the “best goal of the year.”

The U-20 Mexican player is the only female on the list of ten nominees.

Jimenez was part of the Mexico’s U-20 Women’s team that participated in the 2012 U-20 World Cup.

Mexico made it to the quarterfinals before falling to Nigeria.

Jimenez scored her nominated goal in the 2-0 win against Switzerland.

FIFA.com and francefootball.fr users can vote for their favorite goal until November 29 and the top three will go on to the next round.

The winner will be announced at the FIFA Ballon D’or Gala on January 7, 2013.

The rest of the nominees can be seen here.

  1. Great goal but this award is usually given to the most popular player. I hate to be pessimistic but she won’t win:(.

Last year I voted for gio’s goal vs USA and Julio gomez’s Chilena vs Germany and I believe Messi won.

    1. True but Hamit Altintop won it deservedly before.
And her being the only female might get here a ton of votes. You never know. Besides ppl would rather vote for a cute 20 year old than a stuck up 26 year old whether its Messi or Ronaldo.

    2. I’d say it’s more of a realistic view. Players with the world wide fame will definitely be the ones that get more votes but it’s still great that she’s nominated.

I voted for Gomez last time around…the whole story leading up to the goal was something straight out of the movies.

      1. yeap her goal is just classic but her being a woman is even better. Seems like El Tri is doing good in all groups, hope they are not to far from a womans world cup.

    1. yeap saw that, but they need to continue playing hard and getting some better European friendlies for next year. If they want to make an impact in Confederations cup and world cup they have to step up and play with the bigger boys.

      1. We’re already the 6th best country in ESPN rankings so I think it’s more accurate than FIFA ones.
And in ELO we’re ranked 8th so don’t be fooled, ppl know how good we are.
