Guyana vs Mexico will be played in Arizona

Guyana and Mexico will face off at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on October 12, 2012 for a World Cup qualifying match.

Guyana was set to host the qualifier at home, but agreed to change to a neutral venue.

Mexico has already qualified to the next phase of World Cup qualifying and is leading group B. Guayana is currently last in the group.

Mexico has played at the University of Phoenix several times, including a 2-0 loss to the United States on February 7, 2007.

Mexico’s final home match will be played on October 16 in Torreon.

Update: Several sources are saying that the game won’t take place at the University of Phoenix Stadium. The FMF website still lists the stadium as the location, but we will inform you as soon as anything is confirmed. At the time, tickets are not on sale.

  1. I’m interested to see the line up since Mexico already advanced to the next round. Vela & Jonathan should step up now & request to play, it’s up to them to show their commitment to the national team.

    1. It’d be great to see Jona play in the game and have both sides finally get over their problems. Jona isn’t getting time at Barca, so this could be an opportunity to showcase himself and it seems like Barca can’t really be used as an excuse this time around. It’d also be interesting to see Vela and possibly the rest of the Olympic team.

      1. I’d love to see Ulises Davila play. It seems like the more playing time he gets the more he improves, and he has been scoring goals.

  2. Hi Andrea. Did Guyana pick Arizona as the location? Given the current political environment in Arizona, I’d be surprised if Mexico picked it as the location.

    1. Hey Juan! It was a surprising to see that Arizona had been picked with the whole SB1070 debacle. Guyana did have the power to decide, and they confirmed that would be in Texas before the FMF announced Arizona. Arizona has typically brought in big crowds for El Tri, and if money is the mission then it seemed like a good place since the NT hasn’t played in AZ for a while.
