Mexico 1, Great Britain 0: Behind closed doors

Mexico defeated Great Britain by one goal during three 30 minute periods in a preparation game on Sunday at the Marbella Football Center.

Marco Fabian scored for Mexico in the 28th minute to give the Olympic team the win.

Mexico began to attack at the beginning, with a shot from Israel Jimenez forcing Great Britain’s defense to save in the ninth minute.

A few minutes later Hector Herrera made an attempt that shot just past the right post. Moments later Oribe Peralta had an opportunity which forced a save from Jack Butland.

In the 28th minute Marco Fabian took advantage of a Mexican play and sent the ball past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead.

Great Britain had a shot in the 33rd minute. Craig Bellamy took the shot but Jesus Corona saved.

Dany Rose then had the chance to equalize in the 38th minute but the shot hit the right post.

The Mexican coaching staff realized a number of substitutions for the third period.

Mexico will face their Spanish counterpart on Wednesday, July 18 in Cadiz.

Mexico’s U-20 team has also been busy these past few days with participation in the Lev Yashin in Russia. Manuel Corona Ruiz scored twice in a 2-1 win against Dynamo Moscow during the title winning game.

The team initially defeated Besiktas 7-0 and drew 1-1 against Malaga.

They will head to Northern Ireland to play in the MILK Cup where they will face Turkey on July 21st and Northern Ireland on the 23rd.
