Mexico started off their summer schedule with a 2-0 win against Wales at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Two goals from Aldo de Nigris gave ‘el Tri’ the win in preparation for their upcoming friendlies and World Cup qualifiers.
Mexico began the attack at the blow of the whistle. Carlos Salcido launched the first wave with Aldo de Nigris taking the shot in the first minute.
Giovani Dos Santos had the next opportunity, but his shot was blocked by Welsh goalkeeper Jason Brown in the fifth minute.
Dos Santos had another opportunity in the 34th, but sent it barely just on the opposite side of the post.
De Nigris opened the score with a goal in the 42nd minute. Severo Meza passed to De Nigris who arrived in time to head the ball to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Back for the second half, Mexico continued their attack.
In the 54th minute Pablo Barrera and Dos Santos linked up, but Brown was able to make the save.
Wales had an opportunity in the 65th with a pass finding Craig Bellamy, but the Welshmen could do little to surprise Jesus Corona and sent it over the crossbar.
Angel Reyna had an opportunity in the 77th minute. With a half-turn Reyna took a shot, but sent it just past the post.
Wales had a corner kick in the 81st that put Corona to work. After he’d punched it away, the Mexican defense managed to clear the ball.
Aldo de Nigris added a second goal in the 89th minute. Edgar Andrade centered and de Nigris controlled with his chest before bouncing it to the back of the net to seal Mexico’s 2-0 win.
